SSDC - Same Stuff Different Coach
Sunday, 03 September 2017 03:21

Welcome to Purdue Football, where playing for 42 minutes, stupid turnovers, and personal fouls are the name of the game.  Unfortunately, football games are 60 minutes long, and turnovers and personal fouls don't win games.  This game was over mid-way through the 3rd quarter when Purdue let Louisville get within two points at 21-19.  Yeah, Purdue was ahead and there was a lot of time on the clock, but that drive is what gave the Cardinals the hope they needed to come back and win the game.

We've said it before on this site and we'll say it again ... looking good and close losses don't deliver "W"s.

9 - 33 = Fired
Sunday, 16 October 2016 19:45

After 3+ seasons at Purdue, and with a winning percentage that's well below any academic grading curve, Darrell Hazell has been fired.  Wide Receivers coach Gerad Parker, will be the interim coach.

Maybe our new athletic director will hire a legitimate Division 1 head coach!

Purdue Finally Fires Danny Hope
Sunday, 25 November 2012 22:45

After four years of dismal performance and one day after getting bowl eligible, Purdue has fired Danny Hope as their head coach.  And to add to our celebration, he will not coach in any bowl game that Purdue might get invited to.  During the dark ages known as his era as head coach, Hope was 21-27, managing to do no better than second-tier bowl games in 2011 and 2012.

Big Play Capable, But Big Ten Title Worthy?
Saturday, 15 September 2012 18:58

It's not enough for Purdue to have a "winning non-conference record".  It should be an undefeated non-conference record.  That should be the expectation for Purdue football.

It should not be enough that Purdue built up a big lead against a non-conference opponent.  That should be the expectation that Purdue take advantage of lesser teams.

It should not be a surprise that when Purdue takes possession of the ball deep in their own end that they be able to drive the length of the field and get points.  Fumbling the kickoff out of bounds on the half yard line is not acceptable.

It should not be enough to miss extra points or kick the ball out of bounds.  One point makes a difference (right, Penn State fans?).  Spotting decent teams 35 yards will get you killed.  It should be expected that punt coverage will down the ball inside the five.

It should not be acceptable to turn the ball over twice and be content with surrendering nine points.  Disciplined football is required to win games in conference play.  Yeah, nine points is good.  But first, zero points and zero turnovers is better.  Turn the ball over against a quality team, and they'll make it 14 points.

It should not be a surprise that Purdue defense is able to get three-and-out stops.  The defense needs to be strong to compete in Big Ten play.

All of this happened against an unmatched opponent.  It's not enough.  Do it against class teams.  Purdue shows way too many signs of undisciplined play.  It shows repeatedly, and Purdue is fortunate to move to 2-1 on the season with a 54-16 win over Eastern Michigan University.
